Why Nemea is special
Nemea was one of only four sites across the ancient Greek world to host a Panhellenic athletic festival — a rare status shared with Olympia, Delphi and Isthmia. Its Temple of Zeus and stadium, with the earliest known Greek vault, survive in a quiet Peloponnese valley tied to the myth of Hercules and the Nemean Lion.
The practicalities of a visit
Nemea sits in Corinthia, easily reached as a day trip from Athens, Nafplio or Corinth. There's no simple do-it-yourself public-transport route for most visitors, so a guided tour — often combined with a local wine tasting — is the standard way to go.
